A chair held together by one aluminium spine.
The Arc Chair combines a CNC-milled solid oak frame with a single brushed aluminium spine that carries the backrest. Dimensions: 640 × 720 × 780 mm. It is currently in the prototype phase for a limited edition.
Challenge
Joining oak and aluminium without visible fixings, while allowing the timber to move with humidity.
Approach
The spine slides into a milled channel and is secured by a hidden wedge, so the joint can be tightened or replaced without tools beyond a mallet.
Result
Prototype no. 07 passed load testing. A first edition of twenty-five chairs is planned with a Danish workshop.
